Blood on the Southern Blog

February 23rd 2008 11:26
If you are reading this why are you not out and about communicating face to face with real flesh and blood? For those living in the Southern Hempisphere it is somethwhere around evening and people are getting glammed up for a night out or settling in front of their plasma with a box of takeway ready for the evening's entertainment served up couretesy of the commercial world. Wouldn't it be better if we banned the tv, cooked a nice meal together en famille and tried conversation and reading? Harder. Too hard...... Where's the remote? Why do kids argue so much? We have enjoyed a delightful night out with relatives but in the car on the way back, niggle, niggle, niggle from the three offspring to each other, driving myself and their alleged father to tightened jaws and lips. Driving us almost to distraction. or drink. Though we were driving at the time. But you get the picture. Happens a lot. And plus when we got home we made the kids promise not to talkibetween getting ot of the car and entering the house, cos usually everytime we arrive back from somewhere the nieghbours are treated to a series of yelling and shouting and noisy carry-on from the kids causing the 'af ' and self to slink desperately inside cringing yet again. Happy blogging, see ya.

It's because things are too easy. There is no sense of achievement. Back in my day we used to have to be up early to feed the chooks and milk the cow, then walk seven miles to and from school. Kids these days don't know their born. With so little external pressure, they turn on each other.

By the way, you should write op-ed pieces for the papers.

The competition of ideas starts in early childhood. It makes us human. Foster respect, foster dignity, but also foster that competition. All great progress comes from it.
