Tim Winton's latest book ' Breath' is un-put-downable! You gotta read it dear reader, you'll be swept away, literally.
The wild windswept coast is terrific, the surfing scenes absolutely mind-blowing.
I don't want to give any more away, in the hope that you may read for yourself, but the last thing I want to tell you is that I found the book inspirational in dealing with fear and in pushing oneself to the limit.
Confronted the other night by something that for me was fearful and diffifcult and which I desperately wanted to back out of, the thought suddenly of a particular scene in the book where the hero launches himself into an incredible broiling sea despite being paralysed with fear gave me the courage to go on.
Corny? Weird?
Whatever.
I finished the book in a greedy thirsting gulp and after a bit of time I will read it again. Winton's books I always read over and over. Savouring.
Winton has hit on an interesting theme I reckon, in this day and age of comfortable suburban easy living (what a gross generalisation, hey?) where the most fear we are likely to encounter is whether or not we'll miss 'Neighbours' tonight or not.
Not that I'm saying that his book is about fear. It can be about whatever you think. But that is one of my slants on it.
Plus the cover is the most gorgeous blue you can imagine.....
