Ice Age Three?

April 23rd 2008 22:14
We thought the 'smog' in Emu was bad from the stubble fires. Melbourne is enjoying even worse conditions in the run of still autumn weather, due to 'burning off' in the forest areas.

A blanket of smoke lies like an orange layer across the sun this morning making our eyes water, noses run and twitch. Is this the 'right' thing to do, asks many people in the 'Age' newspaper.

Driving to rehearsal last night the traffic all across the city and inner suburbs was virtually at a stand-still. On the radio they were blithering on about climate change and the need to cut emissions and so on and so forth. Carbon trading. Industry accountability.

As I perched above one of the grid-locked freeways and waited to enter a clogged road I wondered about the reality of turning back our car-driven society into a more sustainable transport method.

Then a report came on that a scientist, who had been studying 'sun-spots' for years and years, was predicitng that, instead of global warming we were heading for another ice-age!!!!!

He was rubbished by other scientists: but who can tell? What if he is right?

He was explaining that we need to increase our carbon emissions to hang on to as much heat as possible to combat the coming event!

Interesting, don't you think?

Well, gotta go and plunge into the day. Byeeee!

We absolutely need to make sure that "global warming orthodoxy" does not become an ideology. Remember previous "scientific" ideologies: the club of rome's prediction in 1970 of an oil crisis, y2k, etc.

But, even including sunspots, there is no material evidence suggesting that global warming is not happening. Even some evidence previous touted for global cooling has been now discounted. A famous example was the "evidence" from just one satellite about temperatures, which showed temperatures significantly lower in two consecutive years. Turned out that someone had altered the measurement time by an hour, and the second years' measurements were therefore all an hour later ... and hence cooler.

All the other evidence is simply terrifying.

We will really know it's real when the economy is affected. Food prices start going up, energy prices start going up. Maybe food riots in previously stable countries. Long inexplicable periods without rainfall.

Oh wait. That's all already happening.

Global warming is real. Real. Real. Real. Ignore it and we die.
