Boots Escapes
June 9th 2008 06:18
You know Boots, our border collie pup? I've told you about her before, dear reader, do try to keep up.
She has been quite naughty at escaping from our property recently and annoying passer-bys or neighbours. Remember that was how I met the guitarist/composer from over the road?
Well, today she got out and mega-scared herself and me. It has been a terrible ordeal. This is what happened. We left the house at 7.30 this morning and double tied her outside.
I had to leave Werribee at 12noon to take my daughter to Mont Albert for an exam (nice little drive, for those of you who know Melb!) and I got home about 1.30pm.
Boots was gone. Broken her collar and scarpered.
My heart sank and my blood pressure rose (is that possible?)
I rushed out the front where some neighbours were painting their fence (yesterday Boots had annoyed them and got paint all over herself) and they said she had been seen running around loose a few hours ago but someone had put her back into our garden. (of course, she would have got straight back out)
They added that the dog-catcher had been seen cruising the streets.
I banged on the door of my friend Rachel in the flats: she was horrified and said she thought she had heard high-pitched squealing early in the morning and hoped it wasn't Boots getting run over?
I thoroughly had the wind up by now.
Through my tears I dialled the council who of course couldn't help, it being the wonderful Royal Holiday weekend here in Victoria.
I drove to the holding pound and tried to peer through the steel gates and called her name to see if she was in there.
A gardener fronted up and stared at me before asking was I alright? I guess I would have presented a pretty weird picture. He was all sympathy when I stumbled out my reasons but couldn' really help.
Back home I ditched the car and started walking around the streets door-knocking. The man down the road in the brand-new house started to tell me something, when his 4 year old said succintly,"We saw your doggy but Daddy said she was dirty and chased her away".
Ahh, nice, I thought. I eyed the man, who shifted his leaf-blower to his other arm and avoided my eyes.
"So you were the last person to see her alive?" He looked up but we were distracted by some boys yelling, "Here she is, here is your dog!"
I ran down the street and found that a lovely lady had found Bootling sheltering from the rain on her front porch and, realising she was lost, had tied her up ready for someone to come along and claim her.
I gave this angel a kiss and her lovely daughters and led my downcast puppy home.
Now the little Magpie supporter is curled up tightly and exhaustedly on my sofa having consumed a heap of food and milk, clearly tired out from her terrible terrible ordeal.
She is very down and I think has been kicked or hit by one of the people involved as well.
Have to go now to collect Mattie. I will tell you about the M3DE results later.
Ciao bella!!
