Swimmingly for some....not Schapelle

April 7th 2008 22:03
Off to the state swimming centre today for Matty's swimming comp, if my school allows me out for a few hours. Beautiful autumn day in our fiar city today, numerous hot air balloons floating around overhead at dawn.

rose is bleating outside the back door, having just had 500 mls milk, twice what she should have at her age.

Thanx for the comments regarding Schapell Corby on yesterday's post: someone has done their homeworki!

The big big difference for Indonesian law for Schapelle is that she was always guilty unless proven innocent, in comparision to English law which is the opposite.

Her case was against her right at the start as accurate records were not kept on her behalf and she did not realize what was going on until twas too late, all the evidence was 'muddied'.

How would you feel if it was your son or daughter, or friend, caught in such an impossible situation???

(O gosh, shut up, lamb!!!)

Gotta go, day beckons.

Innocence until proven guilty is the cornerstone of our justice system. First introduced by Richard III (not that it did him any good), it is something we should all fight for. As "Diana" rightly implies, it is a presumption we should all be prepared to advocate for ... indeed, fight for.

Remember Lindy Chamberlain.

What I find fascinating about Diana's writing is the juxtaposition of the big issues with the reality of the interruptions and distractions of the everyday. We need justice, but we also need to feed the lamb.

Oh for heaven's sake, what sort of patronising nonsense is it to assume that Indonesian Law is inferior to ours? It's based on Roman law, which in various forms applies to almost 50% of the world's population. Anglo-centric references to superior legal systems belong in the colonial era, when developing nations were being ripped off to enrich the colonisers.

Demos ... our justice system is the lynchpin of our freedoms. If you prefer Indonesia's freedoms, go and live there.
