Vision Splendour in oZ? No......
April 23rd 2008 06:17
The recent 20/20 Vision Summit Thingy held in 'Berra has disappointed many in Australia.
Those of you not in Oz have no idea how cruel the whole thing is: invite a heap of people to Parliament House, encourage them to come up with a lot of ideas, some good some bad, but have no intention of carrying them out.
Some naive people actually thought their ideas would be acted on! Ha! They fell for it!
I have had some fanciful fantasies over the vision thing myself: what is wrong with this picture?:
Kevin Rudd announces no more new homes to be built unless they are of sustainable materials and self-sufficient with regard to their own power, heating and water.
Effective immediately.
Kev announces massive rebates for those families who use their own backyards to produce one fifth of their own food needs, including meat and dairy.
John Brumby starts riding his bike to work and insists all in his work-force do the same.
He builds new Victorian Parliamentary buildings of mudbrick and stawbales on the city-square and encourages a smallish self-sufficiency farm to be operated in its backyard along the banks of the Yarra.
He bans all cars from the city precinct of Melbourne, instead people walk, bike or use trams or trains (but not buses).
Schools are to be developed into small communities of self-sufficiency, producing their own food and supplying their own needs, such as electiricity and water. They are all adequately funded (told you twas a fantasy!)
George Bush sashays into his congress meeting wearing calico shorts and singlet emblazoned with .......er, actually here the fantasy started getting a bit out of hand.
You get the general picture though.
Got any problems with that 20/20 vision?
