Who cares anyway? We all got climate controlled dwellings anyway....

But here's a terrible thought: what if we really do nothing about changing our ways and don't fix the current climate/greenhouse emmisions crisis? I mean, seriously, think of those people you know: who among them are really doing anything in their own lives to change the way they live, and in the long run, do they really care?
Human nature being what it is, unless the polar ice-cap jumps up in its melting moments and bites us on the nose, are we going to take any notice?
Isn't it 'easier' to sit back and hope 'they' will fix it?? It is all very hard, don't you think?
Eavesdropping on staffroom conversation the other day, people were discussing their renovations n stuff. It seems size does matter: the gibber the extensions, the more air-conditioning, number of bathrooms and sheer glass windows the better. No one ever mentioned anything about water or power saving or orientation for heating or cooling.
Small, pebble gardens with 'sculptured' plants, water features and low maintenance requirements are all the rage.. We all want low maintenance cos lives are too busy and complex to do more than go to work to earn the money to pay for the extension and all the enormous fuel bills........
Until we change radically the way we are approaching these basic decisions which have long-lasting impact on the environment we are in for a difficult time.
Then it occured to me: maybe it doesn't really matter about the heating of the planet and subsequent unpleasant consequences. Nobody wants to go outside anymore anyway.
Huge, climate controlled houses, shopping centres, swimming pools, theme parks, all we need for our shallow existence is already here. We can just jump into our climate-controlled cars, zip off to the nearest mega-mall and have fun!!!
What d'ya reckon about that, eh?
