Yappiness not happiness (LINK)

Yesterday we 'puppy-sat' a small terrier for a while. Eight weeks old, this tiny energetic bundle was delightful but exhausting.
As lively as a wind-up toy the little critter chivvied our obscenely-large-by-comparision collie pup into active play. Yapping, nipping with needle-sharp teeth and jumping hyperactively around, Patches persuaded the initially terrified Bootling into a lively game of 'let's kill the bigger dog'.
Our getting our pup has encouraged a rash of puppy-ownership in our friends and two families have gone out and got these little terriers. Initially my kids wanted one so we would have two dogs (gulp). But now, what a pity, after yesterdays stint they don't want a terrier.
Too lively. Too yappy. Too hysterical. Cute. But. Reminds us of a guinea-pig on stilts.
Still, it was nice to look after it. And breathe a sigh of relief when it left.
(that reminds me, did you get to read 'Breath' yet?)
Is this what it is like for grand-parents when they have the beloved grand-kid for a while but get to relievedly hand it back?
My kids slumped back into their books and toys and when I commented brightly on getting one was greeted with groans of un-enthusiasm
Maybe prospective parents should have a short time with a toddler before getting themselves pregnant?
Prospective owners of anything should get a trail run first? Might save a lot of heart-ache in the long run.
Anyway, the rain which has been falling steadily has eased for the time in Melbourne, giving it a soaking of 30 mls.
Some farming districts also got a good dousing and hubby tells me the tractors are out and about the paddocks already. Getting ready to sow those precious crops and alleviate our global food shortages?
