Woman Asks Internet If Her $80 Engagement Ring Is Acceptable

by Ariana

There's a lot of very mixed opinions on engagement rings. Back in the day, people would say it should be 3 months of man's salary (this is back when it was mostly men who proposed, of course) 3 MONTHS!

Nowadays, things are a little different. Firstly, people can't always afford to give away 3 whole months of earnings. There's also so many new alternatives to traditional engagement rings. Some couples opt for plain bands, for cubic zirconias, for watches and time-pieces as well as other random pieces of jewellery. There's no 'rules' anymore and people can be a lot more creative when it comes to proposals and their choices

Costume and fashion jewellery has become a lot more affordable and accessible, too, which also means you can fake having a pretty big rock of an engagement ring if you really want to.

Recently, a woman wrote into the AITA (Am I The Ass Hole) section of Reddit about her $80 Pandora engagement ring. Check out how it unfolded below.

User u/bigstona began by explaining she'd discovered her ring cost $80 and was from Pandora

She clarifies that her issue is more with the longevity of the ring, explaining her fiance expects it to last their entire marriage.

She confronted her fiance and he put it back on her saying she shouldn't care and that Pandora wouldn't make a ring that didn't last.

She concludes by saying her fiance told her she needs to respect the ring more and remove it every time she showers, which u/bigstona disagrees with.

And here are the people who don't think the original poster is the asshole. Olive Garden comparison is my absolute fave.
